The Apples In Stereo – Travellers In Space & Time

Travellers In Space & Time album coverAccording to their website the Apples in Stereo were born for creating the perfect pop song. I don’t think they have yet succeeded in doing so, but they sure have created a monster of an album with their latest creation Travellers In Space & Time.

Opening up with “The Code” I first didn’t know what to think of this album, but once their real songs start it becomes clear that this thing is a real beauty! When listening to the first couple of songs you might start to think that it might need a bit more diversity, but with perfect timing then the song “C.P.U.” comes along and changes the sound drastically.

I haven’t had the chance yet to listen to any of their previous albums, but if you get the chance make sure to get your hands on this one!

Baths – Cerulean

Cerulean cover artBaths aka Will Wiesenfeld is a new name to the Electronic music scene. But with his first full length Cerulean he has made a big impression on me!

I first heard of this band via a mailing list and that was about a video on Pitchfork were Baths does a live performance on his MPC and this had a big Nosaj Thing vibe that I really liked. A couple of weeks later discovered this great album which regularly hits my speakers at home.

Hopefully this guy will do a performance in the Netherlands soon, because I would love to check this out live.

Ghost – Freedom Of Thought

Freedom Of Thought album coverSometimes artist pick a name that really makes it impossible to find on the internet. Simon Williamson is one of those people, according to last.fm there are at least 14 artists that go by the name Ghost. But Simon definitely is the one I enjoy listening to the most. The Freedom Of Thought album borders on electronic and slightly dubby sound, but sometimes sounds more like jazz.

When first listening to this album the intro song instantly caught my attention, by using one long sample from the movie Nineteen Eighty-Four that fits the album perfect. After this intro the album stays very pleasant to listen to and never starts to get boring.

When comparing Ghost’s music to other artists, probably the best match can be found in DJ Shadow’s earlier work. Which is of course not bad at all to be compared with! I have no clue why this music hasn’t been more popular, because if you ask me it’s one of the best albums of 2009.
